Mathematics and Applications

FACULTY OF MATHEMATICS AND APPLICATIONS

Education philosophy of the program: “Learning by Doing”
This teaching philosophy provides learners with opportunities for practical experience, through which learners are active and creative in learning and research, flexibly applying theory with practice to solve problems of professional practice.

Expected learning outcomes

  1. Introduction:

The Faculty of Mathematics and Applications (FMA), which was established in October 2010, formerly known as Department of Mathematics Teacher Education belonging to the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Sai Gon University, is an educational training and scientific research unit. Currently, the FMA provides 02 Bachelor programs in Mathematics Teacher Education, and Applied Mathematics; 02 Master programs in Mathematical Analysis, and Theories and Methods of Teaching Mathematics as well as 01 Ph.D. program in Mathematical Analysis.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Applications is one of the best scientific research units in Sai Gon University. The lecturers and staffs have always strived to develop their skills and expertise by participating in state-level and ministry-level research projects, conducting research projects for National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED), and publishing articles in international specialized and prestigious journals in the field of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

  1. Functions – Tasks:

The FMA offers Bachelor programs in Mathematics Teacher Education, Applied Mathematics; Master programs in Mathematical Analysis, and Theories and Methods of Teaching Mathematics; and Ph.D. program in Mathematical Analysis. In addition, the lecturers of the FMA also participate in teaching Mathematics for students and post-graduate students of other disciplines in Sai Gon University.

Besides the teaching function, the FMA has well – performed the function of scientific research. Lecturers of the faculty have been conducting and participating in many state-level and ministry-level scientific research projects and NAFOSTED projects as research leaders and members as well as having many international publications in prestigious journals in the field of Mathematics.

  1. Vision – Mission:

Vision: By 2030, the FMA will have had qualified teaching staffs of professional competencies and scientific research aiming at making great contributions to the training of high-quality human resources for Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding areas.

Mission: The FMA will have continuously developed the professional competencies, the expertise and the research skills of the teaching staffs in order to respond well to the training of the Bachelors of Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics Teacher Education; the Masters of Mathematical Analysis, and Theory and Methods of Teaching Mathematics; and the Ph.D. of Mathematical Analysis for social needs.
